THE HEALING SENSE
The healing sense is an intrinsic human faculty – an ability shared by each human being – to bring the “self” in all of its aspects (physical, mental, spiritual, psychological, sociological) into the place of balance that any of us can recognize as “being well.” Like any other human capacity this “healing faculty” has been known about for thousands of years. Throughout history there have been many systems that have recognized it, though it was often “tucked in” with other, essentially unrelated, doctrines.
WHAT REIKI IS
Reiki is perhaps the simplest and most straightforward of these systems. The Reiki Practitioner is a person who is unusually highly attuned to the energies required for the process of healing. Reiki therapy is the technique of gently reconnecting the person under therapy with his or her own ability to marshal these energies – in other words – to heal. Thus the primary role of the Reiki Practitioner is to awaken and guide the subject’s own ability rather than to “bring healing” from somewhere outside.
WHAT REIKI IS NOT
Reiki is not a form of massage (though some massage therapists are also Reiki practitioners). It is not a form of magic, neither is it a kind of science. It is not a repository of arcane or esoteric knowledge. And, it most definitely is not a substitute for regular medical evaluation and care from your primary care provider and specialists
